In 2019, a significant change in Indonesia's halal industry landscape happened with the establishment of the Halal Law. The challenge imposed by the Halal Law is a complex mega-project, collaborated with multiple stakeholders, with a broad impact on the Indonesian economy and trade. Kyoto University is among the best university in Asia, offering an international program with a comprehensive multidisciplinary course on project management under its International Project Management (i-PM) program in The Graduate School of Management. This program is suitable as it covers the courses I need to enrich myself with the essential competency in project management. I am a mechanical engineer and prior to GSM, I worked in various manufacturing companies for around 10 years. My experience in working led me to have a certain perspective on how a company's internal dynamics work. However, I was aware of my lack of understanding of how organizations and industries behave on a bigger scale. I also had interests in other areas such as marketing and hospitality. GSM’s i-BA program seemed to be the best choice for me as it involves classes in all these areas. Additionally, I knew that Kyoto University is one of the most prestigious universities in Japan and the rest of the world. An English-medium international MBA program at this university was too good of an opportunity to miss. The extracurricular activities at Kyoto University, such as being able to take Japanese language classes and join various events and student organizations, were also a factor in my decision. Students Students Driven by a desire to explore the world more and expand my own possibilities, I decided to study abroad in Japan. Particularly at GSM, there is a variety of subject choices and curriculum settings available, allowing not only for the acquisition of practical knowledge but also for the study of highly specialized theoretical subjects to a certain extent. Moreover, the student body includes professionals from various industries, students from different cultures, and individuals like myself who have proceeded directly from undergraduate studies, creating a richly diverse learning environment. The clash of different perspectives is something I find extremely intriguing. I believe this will lead to not just academic fulfillment but also significant expansion in personal relationships and international perspective. Going to grad school has always been one of my goals. I saw it as a way to take a mental break from work, while simultaneously cultivating the skills necessary to shift to my desired career path. With that in mind, Kyoto University/GSM was my first and only application. I specifically sought the international MBA program because it was offered in English and featured several foreign and female faculty members. By Japanese standards, these two points alone are a great rarity, and showed GSM’s strong global and inclusive approach to education, which I felt were important to me as a foreign woman in Japan. I was also interested in the networking opportunity offered by the school’s rich connections within various industries and academic disciplines. I felt that GSM fostered the perfect environment to meet people from different backgrounds, exchange ideas, and learn from each other. Alumni Alumni My research journey started in 2015 when I pursued my Honours Degree at Monash University. I was particularly interested in reproductive tourism, where individuals or couples travel to another country for fertility care, and I sought to understand the institutional circumstances that precipitate such travel. I received my master’s degree in Agricultural Science from the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University. My research efforts to date have given me with opportunities to create ideas that explain what we see in the service sector. I received my Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Economics and Certificate from the Cross-Boundary Innovation Program (Ph.D. Program for Leading Graduate Schools) of Osaka University.
